Dar Williams 'home' for the holidays

Along with the Christmas trees hawked on street corners and vacant lots, decorations on main drags, and various renditions of “The Nutcracker,” one thing that’s come to be expected each holiday season is a post-Christmas show at Southpaw from Dar Williams.

This year, the indie songstress doesn’t disappoint, with a gig at the Park Slope venue December 27 for the third year running, as she plays songs off her last release, “Promised Land,” as well as other highlights from her career.

The Brooklyn gig is one the singer looks forward to every year, especially given the timing.

“Decembers can be an extremely fun time to get out. People are swimming through eggnog, are a little more convivial,” says Williams. “I think my [Brooklyn audience] will be happy to get out from under the pressures and the self-aggrandizement of the holidays.

"Concerts are places people to go to get away from the darkness, the days that get dark at 4 p.m., or to remember that it’s a very important time of the year. Or to just escape from their families," she continues.

Find some escape yourself and head to the promised land December 27, when Dar Williams plays Southpaw (125 Fifth Ave.) at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance, available for purchase at ticketweb.com, or $30 at the door. For more information, call 718-230-0236.

And, in keeping with the holiday cheer, download a holiday mix from Vanguard, which include's Williams' single "It's Alright."
