Home-grown brew

Brooklyn will soon be a home to the hard stuff.

Grub Street has an update on two distilleries set to open in the borough: New York Distilling Company, to be located near McCarren Park (and one of whose owners includes Brooklyn Brewery co-founder Tom Potter), and Breuckelen Distilling, which finds its home, complete with a tasting room, in Sunset Park. The former will produce both gin and whiskey, while Breuckelen will focus on making gin using grains from New York.

Both are looking to open in the city, and will be a return to the city's roots, as they will be the first legal distilleries in the city since Prohibiton. But who will get the official crown? Owners, on your marks, get set, go!
