Pumps & Pleats: Post-holiday shopping at Kings Plaza

By Michèle De Meglio

The holidays are over but after Christmas sales are just beginning!

If you’re brave enough to tackle another round of bargain shopping (Black Friday in Herald Square almost did me in), then head on down to Kings Plaza Mall for a one-stop bonanza of deals.

When many stores are having “day after” sales, it’s always best to bite the bullet and visit a mall. That way you can jump from one store to another in search of the best bargains.

Over at Kings Plaza, located at the corner of Avenue U and Flatbush Avenue, there’s dozens of stores currently offering merchandise on sale or clearance.

While the big chains are always advertising great buys (seriously, how many one-day sales can Macy’s have?), there’s also smaller shops in Kings Plaza that are worth noting.

Take A/X Armani Exchange. Relatively new to the mall, the shop bears the luxury designer’s name but offers casual duds for much more wallet-friendly prices.

A Pumps & Pleats pick is a black faux-leather drawstring bag with chunky silver hardware embossed with the A/X logo. Any name brand lover would be happy to tote this $98 sack around.

If you’re in the market for more modest prices, check out Afaze for its super cheap jewelry, wallets and bags. Brave the snow in a pair of black matte rain boots with an asymmetrical leg opening and emerald green lining. They’re much more stylish than a pair of pink patent wellies decked out in neon colors and crazy prints.

Aldo Accessories always has the coolest handbags, in particular, a tan messenger decorated with brass studs. Head on down – many of the purses are now nearly half off!

H&M is worth a visit. Not just for its chic basics but also to see if there are any pieces left from its collaboration with luxury shoe designer Jimmy Choo. C’mon, like you don’t want a pair of thigh-high black boots!

It’s all sparkles and sunshine in Anna Belen, a fashion jewelry store seemingly styled as the cooler older sister to Claire’s Accessories. Of course the prices are a bit higher than Claire’s, but you gotta love a bedazzled claw clip.

Need a new purse? Check out the two-story Forever 21. The popular chain is known for its super trendy duds – and numerous lawsuits for selling knockoffs of designer apparel and accessories. Here you can find an eerily similar version of the most coveted $500 handbag. At about $40, Forever 21’s faux-leather purses won’t break the bank.
