The Weekend: 1.15-1.17

This has been a tough week for a lot of Brooklynites, so all we have to really say is TGIF. Here's what's happening near you.

Friday, January 15

Midnight Special: The Bell House in Gowanus kicks off its bi-weekly midnight show, with The World Famous Potani Sisters, Eugene Mirman and a very special guest. At midnight, natch. Tickets $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Located at 149 7th St.

Saturday, January 16

Theater: The Brick's "A Brief History of Murder," a collision of Grand Guignol and David Lynch in two interlocking plays - "Detectives" and "Victims" - is running now. Today, make it a double feature and check out both plays. Tickets $25 for the two, $18 each. Located in Williamsburg at 575 Metropolitan Ave.

Music: Williamsburg's MonkeyTown is counting down its last days. Late tonight, favorite Luke Dubois presents much of what he's done at the space over the last four years, including "Bioluminescence" and "Fair Trade." At 11 p.m. Tickets $7 plus a $10 minimum. Located at 58 N. 3rd St.

County: For more boot-stomping fare, head to Jalopy in Red Hook for their Brooklyn County Fair, featuring Brooklyn-based bluegrass acts and more. At 9 p.m. Tickets $10. Located at 315 Columbia St.

Sunday, January 17

Art: In Gowanus, it's the opening reception of Proteus Gowanus' new Hall of Gowanus, the only exhibition space in New York City dedicated to the Gowanus Canal and its environs through art, artifacts, maps, photographs and books. The evening will also feature music, with the sounds of the Gowanus, as recorded by sound artist Kevin T. Allen and water songs by Judith Barnes. At 6 p.m. Located at 543 Union St.

Music: It's Sunday Cookin' with ?uestlove today, as he heads a warehouse party in Park Slope at Southpaw, along with sous chef Yahmeen Allworld. Thrown by the folks at MeanRed, so you know it'll be good. Tickets $12 in advance. Starting at 10 pm till late (great for the three-day weekend). Located at 125 Fifth Ave.

MLK Day: To commemorate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr., several Brooklyn institutions, from BAM to the Brooklyn Children's Museum, are holding tributes today and tomorrow. Check out our post for more on what's happening.
