The weekend: 2.19-2.21 and beyond

It's a typical weekend for Brooklyn - fashion, art, crossword puzzle enthusiasts? Here's a look at what's happening in a neighborhood near you.

Friday, February 19

Last chance
: This is your last weekend to fall into the rabbit hole with "alice...Alice...ALICE!", the latest from the Irondale Ensemble, with a surprise at every turn. Tonight and tomorrow at 8 pm. Tickets $35, $50 for Saturday, which includes a post-show salon with the cast and a wine and cheese reception. Located at 85 South Oxford St. in Fort Greene.

Saturday, February 20

Fashion:
While the fashion gurus have all been at Bryant Park this past week, Williamsburg gets to shine too. The Williamsburg Fashion Weekend returns today and tomorrow, in what founder and designer Arthur Arbit sees as being the smoothest one yet. Starting at 8 pm both nights. Tickets $8. At Glasslands (289 Kent Ave.) in, of course, Williamsburg.

Art
: It seems like most artists in Brooklyn still have their baby fat, which makes "IT’S PERSONAL: A Juried Exhibition of Brooklyn Artists Under Age 35" so special. It's a nice curation of those who call the borough home, and are inspired by it. The exhibition runs at St. Joseph's College until March 4, with a reception today with the artists. From noon to 3 pm in the Alumni Room Gallery (245 Clinton Ave.) in Fort Greene.

Music:
Party with Scott Hardkiss and the gang at the "Underwater Ball" at Knitting Factory. Get ready to sweat. At 11 pm. Tickets $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Located at 361 Metropolitan Ave. in Williamsburg.

Sunday, February 21

Music:
Celebrate the local art and music scene at Brooklyn Bowl today, as the Williamsburg venue kicks off its monthly series "Local X Local." Kicking things off are the Phenomenal Handclap Band. The show starts at 7 pm, and is free. Located at 61 Wythe Ave.

Puzzles:
The American Crossword Puzzle Tournament returns to Brooklyn this weekend, with wordsmiths battling it out for the $5,000 grand prize (it pays to be clever). If there's any day to be a spectator, it's today, as the tournament reaches its "Final Death" round, with the top three battling it out on gigantic crossword puzzle boards, with live commentary provided. It's more suspenseful than you think. At 12:15. Admission $30. Located at the Brooklyn Marriott (333 Adams St.) in Downtown Brooklyn.

Tue
sday, February 23rd

Trekkies wanted
: The Knitting Factory throws a very special birthday party for Captain Kirk today: The Shat Ball, featuring Start Trekkin', the Raspberry Brothers, Fall on Your Sword plus Kirk-aoke battle - A Cap'n Kirk impersonation contest. Trekkies unite! At 9 pm. Tickets $5.

Books
: It's all about the nabe at the Greenlight tonight. Photographer John Bartelstone visits the Fort Greene bookstore to discuss "The Brooklyn Navy Yard" with Brooklyn Rail editor Ted Hamm. Get an insider's eye to the mysterious space. At 7:30 pm. Free. Located at 686 Fulton St.
