Say 'Ola' to David Wingo

By day, David Wingo is a composer, having left his mark on such films as “All the Real Girls” and “Gentlemen Broncos.”

By night, you can find him with an acoustic guitar, fronting his indie band Ola Podrida.

The two jobs actually help to create a cinematic yet American sound that you can’t help but be sucked into.

“My film scoring has had a big influence on how I write songs in terms of thinking about atmosphere and subtlety,” said Wingo, who’ll perform at Littlefield on July 15 in support of his second full-length album, “Belly of the Lion.”

“I’m always a ‘music first’ guy; I come up with music and vocal melody before the lyrics.”

A former Brooklynite who recently relocated to Austin, Wingo laid down those tracks from his Kensington apartment, playing all instruments save for the drums. When he plays live, it’s not all subtlety and mood music.

“For anyone who’s seen us before, it’s a very different live sound now,” said Wingo. “It’s more rocking than back in the day.”

Ola Podrida at Littlefield [622 Degraw St. between Third and Fourth avenues in Gowanus, (718) 855-3388], July 15, 8 pm. Tickets are $10. For info, visit www.olapodrida.com.
